Horn Version

Instrumentation: Horn in F, Vibraphone, Drum Set, Piano.

Duration: 10 minutes

Program Notes: "Dystopian Shadows depicts a distant future where the world has fallen under the rule of chaos. Inside the walls of a dystopia, life is as busy as ever, yet outside of those walls is an eerie and forsaken wasteland, serving as little more than a reminder of the life that once flourished there. Combing two completely different sound worlds, this piece shows you both the inside and outside of these walls, with the more upbeat moments meant to represent the bustling city life, while the slower moments represent that outside world, covered in the shadows of a dystopia."

Dystopian Shadows was originally performed with bassoon, however in December 2025 it was rearranged to be performed with horn player Johanna Yarbrough.

Premiered by Johanna Yarbrough, Ethan Strunc, Carson Truett, and Gabriel Rodrigue on March 2, 2026.
