Faustian Bargain (2024):
Instrumentation: Trombone and Piano
Duration: 8 minutes
Program Notes: The term "Faustian Bargain", or "deal with the devil", comes from the old legend where a man by the name of Johann Georg Faust enters into a pact with the devil in pursuit of vast knowledge. In doing so, he sells his soul and ends up gaining far less than what he gave, serving as a great lesson for us all. This piece is inspired by that legend, making heavy use of the tritone, which is infamously known for having been thought to be the "interval of the devil".
