ABDUCTION: Persephone (2024):
Instrumentation: Flute
Duration: 3 minutes
Program Notes: This piece is based off of the story of Persephone being abducted by Hades in Greek mythology. It begins with Persephone gathering flowers in blissful ignorance, and then an unease sets in, brought about through rehearsal mark "A". Following that, Hades enters on his horse and takes Persephone away, which creates and tugging effect between the two, and also represents Persephone having to spend time in both the underworld and overworld. The piece ends with a sense of contempt, yet rebelliousness.
Premiered by Juliana Thint on November 11, 2024 at Louisiana State University.
